Virtual (VT) available to K-12
A virtual student takes all classes through VIA DTSOI online/at home and only comes to campus for required standardized testing, field experiences, K-5 On-site days, iTimes, special events (dances, 5K, etc.), and to work with teachers in the VIA Learning Lab.
Synchronous Online Learning - Learning in which participants interact at the same time and in the same place.
Asynchronous Online Learning - Methods of asynchronous online learning include self-guided lesson modules, streaming video content, virtual libraries, posted lecture notes, and exchanges across discussion boards or social media platforms.
Elementary students enrolled in VIA engage in both synchronous and asynchronous online learning model. Methods of asynchronous online learning include self-guided lesson modules, streaming video content, and virtual libraries. Methods of synchronous online learning include small group instruction, one on one conferencing, and read aloud.
Secondary students enrolled in VIA, engage in an asynchronous online learning model. Methods of asynchronous online learning include self-guided lesson modules, streaming video content, virtual libraries, posted lecture notes, and exchanges across discussion boards or social media platforms. Due to the 100% asynchronous online learning model, VIA DTSOI’s instructional model is not impacted by COVID-19.
Blended (BL) grades 6-12 only
A blended student primarily attends DTSOI on either A day or B day and works on virtual coursework off-campus on the opposite day. This is typically a student who is 50/50, 60/40, or 70/30 split in face-to-face and virtual courses. BL students are expected to take CCR/Senior Seminar while face-to-face.
Digital Phoenix (DP) grade 6-12 only
A Digital Phoenix student is taking a course to fill a course gap (not credit recovery) and may be missing a class because of a building transfer, travel schedule (athletics), or some other master schedule conflict or oddity. This student will often be taking a virtual course in addition to a full face-to-face schedule. They utilize a VIA teacher for course support/grading and are coordinated by the DTSOI grade level counselor.
