Student-athletes commit to college teams

Eighteen student-athletes signed official National Signing Day letters of intent April 16 to play collegiate sports at National Signing Day events at Har-Ber and Springdale high schools.

Luke Altom

Luke Altom signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton.

“I feel excited and blessed,” Altom said.

Altom, 18, plays second base for Har-Ber High School and will compete in the middle infield for Eastern Oklahoma.

The senior has played baseball for 13 years and was a member of the 2023 and 2024 state tournament winning teams.

The student-athlete plans on a career in the military in an undetermined field.

Altom lives in Springdale and is the son of Carol and Alan Altom.


Cy Bates

Senior Cy Bates signed committed to play basketball for Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.

“I feel ready for the next chapter in my life and becoming a better man, smarter student and basketball player, which this college can provide for me,” Bates said.

Bates, 18, plays as a small forward for Springdale High School, the same position he’ll play for Southwestern.

“Go builders!” Bates said.

Bates has played basketball for nine years and counts Springdale’s 65-31 win over Northside as one of the highlights of his high school career.

The student-athlete lives in Fayetteville and is the son of Rorry and Lara Bates.

Bates plans on studying accounting in college and aspires to be a professional basketball player and accountant.


Madan Brooks

Madan Brooks signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.

“I’m excited for my next chapter,” Brooks said.

Brooks, 18, is a Springdale High School senior.

Brooks has played basketball for 11 years.

She's the daughter of Heather and Jonathan Brooks and lives in Springdale.

The student-athlete plans on majoring in business at the University of the Ozarks and hasn’t determined a future career at this time.


Alexa Burkett

Alexa Burkett committed to play golf for the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.

“I’m excited about the opportunity and being able to continue working and learning new things,” Burkett said. “Playing collegiate golf has been a dream of mine and a huge accomplishment.”

Burkett has competed as a golfer since she was 7 and counts helping her team win state her sophomore year, making all-state her senior year and being named Player of the Week for “Hawgs Illustrated” among her high school sports accomplishments.

The 17-year-old senior attends Har-Ber High School and lives in Springdale.

Her parents are Michelle and Jody Burkett.

Burkett plans to become a pediatrician and to major in nursing at UofA.


Macon Butler

Macon Butler signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.

“I’m so excited. This has been something I have been dreaming about and working every day towards,” Butler said. “I can’t wait to see where this path will take me. It’s only the beginning!”

Butler, 18, competes as an outside hitter for Har-Ber High School.

The senior has played volleyball since the seventh grade.

Butler said playing on the 2024 6A West, 6A All- State, 6A West All-Conference and the 6A All- Star, Northwest Arkansas All-Area teams, being named the Class of 2025 #6 Outside Hitter in Arkansas and the Class of 2025 #12 Overall Player in Arkansas and earning 415 Kills with a .210 hitting percentage in 2024-2025 season among her high school career highlights.

The student-athlete lives in Springdale and is the daughter of Chuck and Amy Butler.

Butler plans on studying psychology at Northeastern in hopes of one-day working as a therapist or an entrepreneur.


Destiny Calderon

Destiny Calderon committed to cheer for the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.

“I thank the Lord with a heart full of gratitude for guiding me to UAFS, even after I walked away from the security of a full-ride scholarship from another institution,” Calderon said. “I trusted the plans he has prepared, knowing that his plans are better than mine. This is precisely where he has intended for me to be”

Calderon, 18, attends Don Tyson School of Innovation, but cheers for the Springdale High School Bulldogs.

The senior has cheered for four years and competes as a back spot and base for Springdale, the same role she’ll play for UAFS.

Calderon earned third place at high school nationals, was a two-time All American and a two-time team captain.

She plans on studying nursing at UAFS.

“After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, I plan to become a midwife,” Calderon said.

She lives in Springdale and is the daughter of Erik Calderon and Juana Martinez.


Luke Cornelison

Luke Cornelison signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

“I am excited, and I am blessed to play baseball at the next level,” Cornelison said.

Cornelison, 18, is a Har-Ber High School senior.

He plays shortstop and pitcher for the Wildcats and will compete as an infielder and pitcher for the Razorbacks.

The student-athlete has played baseball for 13 years and was a two-time 6A West State Champion, the 2023 and 2024 state championship most valuable player and made both the All-Conference and All-State teams his sophomore and junior season.

Cornelison plans on studying kinesiology and physical education in college and hopes to be drafted to play major league baseball.

He is the son of Jerod and Whitney Cornelison and lives in Springdale.


Kya Dixon

Kya Dixon committed to play basketball for Allen County Community College in Iola, Kan.

“I am ready to play at the next level,” Dixon said.

Dixon, 18, played on the 2024 Conference Championship, the Little Rock Christian Classic Championship and the Carl Junction Classic Championship teams and was the 6A West All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The senior has played basketball for 12 years and currently competes for the Springdale High School Bulldogs.

Dixon lives in Rogers and is the daughter of Arlisha Dixon and Bryan Evans.

She’s undecided on a career but plans on study engineering in college.


Jeremy Hamrick

Jeremy Hamrick, 17, signed a National Letter of Intent to swim for the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.

“I am very thrilled and excited to have the opportunity to continue swimming,” Hamrick said.

The student-athlete competed at state three years in a row and medaled in the 2024 6A West Conference in the 200 free and 200 free relay.

Hamrick has been a swimmer for nine years and currently competes for the Springdale Bulldogs.

He is the son of Robert and Jamie Hamrick and lives in Springdale.

“I plan to major in teaching,” he said of college. “I want to be a high school teacher and coach.”

Daphney Jimenez

Daphney Jimenez committed to cheer for the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.

“I am feeling so blessed,” Jimenez said. “More than anything, I thank the Lord for showing me his surpassing love and answering prayers through this offer.”

Jimenez, 17, cheers as a flyer for Springdale High School and will compete as both a base and flyer for UAFS.

The student-athlete has cheered competitively for five years and served as the Bulldogs cheer captain, competed at All-State in 2024, was a two-time All- American and took third for Medium Gameday Coed at the National Cheerleaders Association High School Nationals.

Jimenez plans to study nursing at UAFS and to specialize in neonatal intensive care.

“As a first-gen student, I am beyond happy that I get share this experience with my family,” she said.

“It was my mom’s dream to go to college and study nursing, and now God has given me the resources to, not only do that, but to also pursue my dreams of cheering in college.”

She lives in Springdale and is the daughter of Victor Jimenez and Rosie Castillo.


Kaybrina Krug

Kaybrina Krug signed a National Letter of Intent to cheer for John Brown University in Siloam Springs.

“I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to, not only further my education through a Christ-centered institution, but to also pursue my passion for athletics at the next level,” Krug said.

Ther senior has cheered for five years, competes as a main base for Springdale High School and is excited to cheer at the college level.

“I would be lying if I said I haven't quite literally jumped up and down in excitement and joy as I’ve looked to my future,” Krug said. “Thank you from the very deep bottom of my heart. I cannot wait to embark on this next great adventure!”

The senior is a 2025 National Cheer Association Nationals bronze medalist and a two-time All-American cheerleader.

Krug, 18, plans to study biology at John Brown and hopes to have a career in pediatrics.

“Never let anyone discourage you with what society deems ‘hard,’" she said. “Go for it. Explore and experience. You never know where it will get you. Take with you always Philippians 4:13.”

Krug lives in Tontitown and is the daughter of Ryan and Rose Krug.


Kinalisa Lokot

Kinalisa Lokot committed to wrestle for Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa.

“I feel great,” Lokot said. “I'm really excited and happy I have an opportunity to wrestle for college.”

Lokot, 17, is a Har-Ber High School senior who’s wrestled for three years.

The student-athlete placed fourth as a sophomore and third as both a junior and a senior at the state wrestling championships.

She’s the daughter of Peterson Lokot and Lynn Tibon and lives in Springdale.

Lokot plans to study kinesiology in college.

“I’m just really excited,” Lokot said.


Adriana Magana-Hernandez

Adriana Magana-Hernandez signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Connors State College in Warner, Okla.

“I'm really excited, because I still get to play the sport that I love and at the next level,” Magana-Hernandez said.

The senior is a shooting guard for Springdale High School and will play as a point guard for Connors State.

Magana-Hernandez, 18, has played basketball for 10 years.

The senior was a 2025 6A West Conference champion, played on the 2025 6A West All-Conference team, was a 2021 and 2024 6A West honorable mention, competed on the 2022 and 2023 Carl Junction All-Tournament teams and played in the 2024 Little Rock Christian All-Tournament.

“Thank you to everyone that has supported me throughout my career,” Magana-Hernandez said. “I'm extremely grateful for every single one of y’all, and love y’all dearly!”

The student-athlete calls Springdale home and is the daughter of Traci and Maynor Magana-Hernandez.

Magana-Hernandez plans to study computer science at Connors and aspires to become a software engineer.


Jazmine McCarther

Jazmine McCarther committed to play basketball for Fort Scott Community College in Kansas.

“I am very excited for what the future will hold for me at Fort Scott,” McCarther said.

McCarther, 18, is a senior at Har-Ber High School.

She’s played basketball for eight years and counts competing on all-conference, defensive and all-tournament teams among her high school career highlights.

McCarther lives in Bella Vista and plans to study cosmetology and childcare in college.

She’s the daughter of Tiffany Finch and Lamonte McCarther.


Kiara Owens

Kiara Owens signed a National Letter of intent to play basketball for Seward Community College in Liberal, Kan.

“I’m very grateful to get this opportunity to play at the next level,” Owens said. “I'm very excited to see what my next chapter looks like.”

Owens, 18, is a senior at Springdale High School.

She’s played basketball for 12 years and competed on the 2025 6A West Conference Championship team, as well as the 2025 6A West All-Conference team.

Owens plans to study business at Seward and is undecided on a future career.

She lives in Rogers and is the daughter of Angela and Darnell Owens.


Zyria "Z" Palmer

Zyria "Z" Palmer, 18, committed to play softball for Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Okla.

“I am excited,” Palmer said.

Palmer, a senior, plays second base for Har-Ber High School.

She’s played softball since she was five and said being named the 2024 6A State Runner-up, the All-State Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, as well as competing at All-Conference twice, among her high school career highlights.

The student-athlete plans on studying radiological science in college with aspirations of becoming a radiologist or a pediatric nurse.

Palmer is the daughter of Risondra Boyd and Jarvis Palmer and lives in Tontitown.


Ruby Salas

Ruby Salas signed a National Letter of Intent to run track and cross-country at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville.

“I feel very excited to start the next chapter of my life while doing the sport that I love so much,” Salas said.

Salas, 18, is a senior at Har-Ber High School.

The student-athlete has run competitively since he was 6 years old.

She lives in Springdale and is the son of David and Saira Salas.

Salas plans to major in nursing and college and aspires to specialize in pediatrics.


Kiara Ray

Springdale High School's Kiara Ray likewise committed to compete in track for Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville. No additional information was available at the time of publication.
