The Pre Educator program of study at DTSOI had eight students pass the ParaPro Exam. Pictured are Elliot Lindsey, Instructor Karrie Hutchins, Kierson Titus, Rachael Pourvash, Maria Lopez, Arlind Dedushaj, and Elysia Kincaid (not pictured is Lydia Kanenwisher). The Parapro Exam is a credential required by The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which requires that paraprofessionals serving in an instructional capacity satisfy one of the following: • An associate of arts degree OR • Two years of college OR • Demonstrate, through a state or local academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, the instruction of reading, writing, and math. The ParaPro Assessment measures prospective and practicing paraprofessionals’ skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, and writing, as well as the ability to apply those skills and knowledge to assist in classroom instruction. Paraprofessionals are hired within the Springdale Public School system as Instructional Assistants. Students 18 years of age and older may apply to work as a Paraprofessional while continuing their education after high school. This is part of a program to recruit and retain Springdale students who are interested in the field of education. We are very excited about the opportunity to "Grow Our Own" teachers in Springdale! This is DTSOI's first year to offer the Pre Educator program of study, #PhoenixFam!
